Artist Statement
My artistic practice explores transformation and the dissolution of boundaries between life forms. Inspired by the movement of water, I use fluidity as both a metaphor and a guiding force in my work. My paintings embrace the organic flow of materials, while my sculptures evolve beyond their initial forms, blurring distinctions between plant, animal, and human shapes, as well as between liquid and solid.
Working across figurative and abstract styles, I integrate science, art, and spirituality, drawing from esoteric philosophies like Kundalini yoga to explore altered states of consciousness. My abstract drawings—created with pen, ink, and colored pencil on mylar—resemble imagined scientific illustrations, merging biological forms to examine evolution and envision extraterrestrial life. I am particularly drawn to the "sublime," exploring the unconscious mind, bodily mechanisms, and childhood conditioning that shape perception.
Aesthetically, my work reflects the intricate details of Ernst Haeckel and the fairy tale illustrations of my Eastern European upbringing. My figurative watercolors use delicate layering to create ethereal, elusive presences. In sculpture, I incorporate the ornate aesthetics of Baroque and Art Nouveau, emphasizing decoration as a symbol of femininity. My sculptural and abstract works also reference scientific hybridity, merging traditionally distinct life forms into new, fluid identities.
